Today is my first day back at work, and you are 6 months
old. It has been such an incredible blessing to have that time at home with
both you and Harrison, but today is bittersweet because I love spending time
with you. You are the world’s happiest baby. Seriously. I am not kidding. Your
smile is infectious, and you are so willing to share it. You have a “squeal”
that often accompanies this three-toothed grin that I cannot get enough of.
You, however, smile the biggest and most often for your brother.
Harrison noun: the boy who you have already started
to idolize in a BIG way! You already
want to be able to do everything he can, or have everything he can. I can
imagine that you will likely move onto your milestones a little quicker than
your brother, simply because you want to be able to do everything that he does. You are growing up SO FAST! I have packed away your 6-month
clothing, you are in 9-month, and some 12-month clothing already. You are stretching out into a tall little
boy, and you are already starting to lose some of your baby fat. I think there
is a combination of things at play here. One, you are much more mobile (you can
scotch across the floor to get at what you want and roll over both ways), and
you are eating more solid food (and less formula). You LOVE having breakfast.
It is actually one of my favorite times of day with you.
At your 6 month appointment, you were in the 98th
percentile for everything. Here were your stats:
21 lbs, 12 oz.
CHECK--------- 28 ½ inches long.
You are working on sitting up, and are SO CLOSE to being
able to do it on your own. I think you are not quite there yet because you love
to spend time on your tummy. Your favorite toys right now are your Sophie the
Giraffe, ring toys, bug connectors, swirly rattles and your wire and wooden
block toy. You are able to grab at toys and get most of them to your mouth,
where everything goes. Outside is your favorite place to be, even if it means you fall asleep in the swing :) When you are fussy, all we have to do is get you into some fresh air and life is good.
Silas, you are still laid back and calm, except for hand dryers in
the bathroom, loud screaming children (really?, you know you live with one of the loudest 4-year-olds on the planet) and big things being dropped on the floor. I think that you will
be more reserved, and cautious than your older brother... just a guess. You look things
over before you venture towards something, and look for reassurance when something seems scary. You usually go with the flow, but we are learning that there are times when you will speak up.
We are amazed, daily, by who you are turning into. You seem
to change by the minute and we are taking all of them in knowing that it goes
by way too fast. We cannot wait for what the next couple months will bring!
Love, Mom (Dad and Harry, too)
