Silas- 13 and 14 Months

There is what on my shirt??

It IS a frog!

13 Months: March 26th-April 25th & 14 Months: April 26th-May 25th:

These months have been so busy and such a FUN TIME!!! I am smashing these posts together, as we have been pending too much time  having fun. Silas continues to be such a happy baby, even when his tube in his ear is plugged and draining blood (yeah, they didn't tell us about that one before it happened). This post covers Spring Break home with mom all the way to celebrating Harrison's 5th birthday! In true Silas style, he went along for the ride and was the perfect 1-year-old gentleman.

FOOD:
Silas is getting more interested in big people food, with the exception of whole milk. He will not take whole milk in a bottle, unless it is diluted with something else (right now we are doing a toddler formula). We are trying a vast array of sippy cups and temperatures to see if we can find the perfect combo. Food wise, Silas will eat PRETTY. MUCH. EVERYTHING. He has only all out rejected banana's, which is an interesting choice for rejection. He will tell you when he is all done by saying it and wiping everything off his tray onto the floor. At least he is not subtle.

LODGING:
We have a pretty good sleeper on our hands. He is sleeping through the night 4-5 nights per week, and usually just needs a little reassurance, and new diaper, on the days he is not sleeping through the night. So, other than wishing he could sleep in his brothers room, there is not much to report here.

TRANSPORTATION:
He is ON THE MOVE!!! He has perfected his walk, though it is still a little wobbly at times. The biggest transportation-related challenge is that he thinks he can walk down stairs like a grown-up...FACING FORWARD. We are trying to teach him to turn around and back down stairs (or really off anything that is too tall for him), but he is not having it at this point. This is most problematic when he does things like climb on top of the kitchen table, and tries to step off the side of it. Details.

COMMUNICATION:
He can HEAR! Since getting his tubes, we can tell that he can hear us more clearly, as he picks up more words and starts to communicate with us more accurately. We are excited to hear some of the new words he comes up with (and often find it amusing to figure out what he calls things). Some of my favorites right now are:
Mo-Mowe (Mickey Mouse)
BooBurry (blueberries)
Cuck (truck)
Pider (spider- as in "Itsy Bitsy Spider")
Nack (snack, or just eating in general)
Mote (remote control)
Nay Nay (Good Night- or I'm tired)
Miht or Meh (blanket)
He can say some other words pretty right on, but these are my favorite "slightly-off" versions.

ENTERTAINMENT:
Silas would read books all day if you were willing to sit with him. Some of his favorites right now are: Red Truck, The Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear- Brown Bear, Little Blue Truck, and any book that required you to touch anything or lift a flap. He is pretty gentle with books, so he has free-range book grazing rights throughout the house which often ends in giant messes of books everywhere. If it is quiet, we know either Silas is "reading" or getting into something he should not be :)
He can be very sneaky, and when he is getting into something that he has heard "NO" about before, he goes into stealth mode, hoping we will not notice his shenanigans. This usually happens when he is playing with DVD's from the cabinet or getting into his big brothers Legos.

Silas' favorite toy is still his brother, and anything his brother typically plays with. They are starting to get on each others nerves when they both want the same red car, even though there are 467 other cars in the play room... So it begins. In all honesty, they usually play really well in the same room, as they don't quite get how to play with one another. I can see the wrestling and "boys only" signs outside the door coming soon.

Silas really enjoys songs with motions, and hence he loves baby classes where they sing a bunch of those songs. ECFE was winding down for the year and at his last class he walked in doing the motion for his favorite song. He really enjoys  "The Wheels on the Bus" and "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" right now. Of course, I am thrilled to sing to him, so it is a win-win.

Finally in his big-boy carseat.

He really enjoys going out to eat. Sometimes we enjoy it, too.

Harrison was dying eggs for Easter celebrating.

This is how Silas dyes eggs.

And....we are done.

Baths are still one of his favorite times of day.

Both Bryan and I really love this little curl that he had going right before we cut his hair. I had to snap a photo of it.

Easter at my parents house. Sadly, I don't have any photos from the other grandma and grandpa's house on Easter.

Easter was Dad's birthday, so it was a extra special day at our house.

His own mote (remote control)!

That bloody ear I was talking about  :(

FIRST HAIRCUT!

Hanging with mom on Mother's Day.

We had to wait at the ENT to get Silas' ears checked again. This is what entertaining a 14 month old looks like :)

Grandma brought the boys to meet me at a park for lunch one of the last days of school.

Silas found the DANDELIONS!! He is obsessed with them. Luckily, we have a lot of them in Minnesota this time of year. All he wants is one for each hand to carry around.

A few Silas photos from Jeremiah and Carson's Birthday party.

Silas was listening and gave Harry exactly what he wanted for his birthday.

Silas- 13 month letter and 1 Year Photos!

Silas-

My sweet, loving, easygoing, patient not-so-little boy. You had an eventful month from 12 months to 13 months, and so I write this letter to you a little late, but with all of your birthday memories very fresh in my mind.

The biggest, most incredible, amazing and outstanding news (to us), is that you are sleeping through the night... CONSISTENTLY. I believe, no I pretty much know,  that this was a direct result of getting tubes in your ears a few days after your first birthday. You were a trooper for the procedure, much more calm and together than mom and dad were. Within a few days, we noticed that you can hear a lot better, and you have even started to copy more of what we are saying.
Some of your favorite words at 13 months are:
- Dider- Diaper
- Mama- Mom
- Dada- Dad (thought it can sound like diaper sometime, too)
- Duh- Duck
- Hessin- Harrison
- Mo- More
- Baba- Bottle
- NaNa- Night Night
- Boo- Book
- Oh, Oh- Oh NO!
- AhDon- All Done
- Nuh- No

You just started adding the word "no" to the head shake that you have had mastered for 3 months now. You are consistent with shaking your head when you really mean "no" and have started to sign more when eating and actually meaning that you want more. We are working on the sign for "all done" as right now it more resembles a one handed swipe of all things left on your tray to the floor.
You have an amazing appetite, and often eat more than your almost 5-year-old brother at a meal. There is only one food that you don't like, but it is a weird one... BANANAS!!!

With such a big appetite, I am not surprised that you are such a big boy! You are bigger than your brother was at this age, and so the seasons you were born in being off a little is going to make a difference this summer when you are already wearing a bigger size than Harry did all summer (and it is only March). You are wearing some 18 month clothing, and really need me to take out all 18-24 and 24 month clothing, as a few of your current onzies look like low cut women's shirts :)

Your tooth count on your first birthday was 11, with a 12th and final tooth (the last molar) roaring to come in. Your tooth count as I write this 13 month letter is 13, with that pesky molar popping in and one eye tooth, too. You don't let much get to you, bu teething can sometimes make you just sorta happy, as opposed to the ultra happy you usually are :)

Right now, you are most into standing on the chair or couch in front of the window and looking out, or climbing anything you can to look outside. As I looked back at your brother's letter, he was crazy about this at your age, too! You like to examine things and carefully take apart and put back together tiny objects. You have always been really good at that. You LOVE Books, especially those that you can touch different textures on or books that have flaps to lift. You are not really into TV, or movies, but you have recently shown an interest in Daniel Tigers Neighborhood (Mr. Rogers as a tiny cartoon lion). I would say that the other big thing right now, that has always been a big thing for you, is music. You love listening to it, playing instruments and playing with toys that sing to you. This makes your mama very happy!!

It has been such an amazing year, our sweet Silas. We would never change a thing about it!

We love love LOVE you,
Mom (and Dad, too)
