Harrison- Age 4- 4.7 (May through December)

WARNING!! THERE ARE A TON OF PICTURES ON THIS POST :)

Harrison-

As I write this you it is the end of December. So, you are 4 years and 7.5 months old. We will call it your 4 1/2 year letter :) Our house is so busy right now, I cherish the chance to sit down and write about the amazing little boy that you are turning into.

The biggest change for you this year is that you are in preschool. You LOVE school. You are excited to go and often ask me if it is a "school day". The nice part is that I only have to tell you what day it is and you figure it out :) You know so much more than you did in September. The days of the week, months of the year, numbers 1-100, upper and lower case letter, all letter sounds, some sight words, and SO MUCH MORE!!! You are even sounding out words in books and starting to read portions of emergent reading books.

Your teachers think you are a riot! I often receive emails, or hear from them in the hallways, about the witty things you say or the funny things you do. Here are a few of my favorites, though there are a BUNCH more:
- - - - From an email I received:  Harrison was playing with a child and the other child was upset. I asked Harrison if he knew why the other child was upset   Harrison says,  "I think it was because I told him he was on the naughty list!" We had quite a chuckle!!! So cute!!
- - - - I picked you up after school one day and my teacher was talking with me about how you don't like to color (which kills me, but it is a fact of life). When she asked you why you don't like to use more than one color, or fill in the picture you replied: "Everyone at my house scribbles with one color- My mom does, my dad does, we all do" She thought this was funny, since your mom is the art teacher and all :)

You have grown up so much in the first couple months of school. The first couple weeks were rough. You were tired after school. So tired that you fell asleep for the ride home, but refused to nap at school. I think you are worried that you will miss something cool. At home, this meant that you were a little more sassy than usual and had a lot less patience for things not going your way. It has gotten better, but it is something that we continue to work on. You are learning that having privelages taken away is NOT FUN, and you tell us that (VERY LOUDLY) when it happens. It is a part of growing up that you are not super fond of, I am afraid.

Though you can be stubborn, you are extremely caring and sensitive to others emotions. You are thrilled when something you does can make someone smile. You remember what people like and try your best to show them that you remember when you see them next. You are always there to give a hug and cheer people up when they are sad, even if you were the reason for their sadness :)

You are happy to have more responsibiliy, which you would say is the good part of growing up. You have a chore list that you help us with, and work much better when there is a routine, and what needs to be done it built into that routine. You just like things a certain way, and I do not think that will ever change, and that is not a bad thing.

We are so proud of how much you have grown up, and we are so excited to be along on this journey with you. We can't wait to see what they next 6 months brings!!
Love,
Mom and Dad
