September through November 2013!
The biggest news this season is that Harrison found out he was going to have a little BROTHER! Leading up to the appointment, he had been about 50/50 on if it was a boy or girl (and we weren't so sure that he even cared). But the day of, he was CONVINCED it was a brother. Mom was convinced, too. We waited about an hour after the appointment to find out the gender through a photo session, and I am so glad we did. The look on Harrison's face when he found out it as a boy was priceless!
Entertainment: This fall, we spent a lot of time enjoying the warmer weather. Harrison picked out pumpkins at Paul's Market with grandma Gayle, and a few others with us. He became aware of all the decorations that people put up for the various fall holidays, starting with Halloween! We spent an evening making apples sauce, and another carving pumpkins, and, of course, decorating the house and reading Halloween books!
As for Halloween, we took Harry to the All Saints Carnival at church to trick or treat a few days before Halloween. We tried on the three costumes that he had collected over the past year. The dragon was too big (so dragon next year it is), the fireman was too small, but the shark from last year fit perfectly. My grown up little three year old looked at me, at first disappointed to wear the same thing, and said, "It's O.K. mommy, I can be a shark again this year." I was going to tell him he could get a new costume, but why fight it!! On Halloween, because I was on worship team and Bryan had school stuff, Harry spent the evening trick or treating in grandma and grandpa's neighborhood.
Following Halloween, we undecorated from Halloween and decorated for Thanksgiving. We spent a lot of time reading books and talking about what Thanksgiving is all about, and how to be thankful for the things we have. This concept is somewhat lost on a 3 1/2 year old, but it is worth a shot! We spent time with both families, and followed our Thanksgiving meals with some shopping the day after Thanksgiving in Medford (away from the crowds and after the rush). It was a very peaceful black Friday experience that even Harry enjoyed!
Food: Harry has had a CRAZY appetite. This kid really does go from eating nothing to eating enough for a small army of toddlers at one sitting. We figure it always has something to do with some sort of growth spurt. He has also been complaining about his legs hurting for about a month now, so that is another tell-tale sign!
He has been helping set the table, and clear his space after dinner. He has also become a big fan of breakfast on the go (as he is IMPOSSIBLE to wake up for breakfast at home before going to auntie Erika's- where, by the way, he usually eats, too). So, he has learned that he really likes Raisin Bran and many other breakfast cereals for breakfast...WHO KNEW!
Lodging: Boy wonder skipped naps for a while when I went back to school, but still needed them. So, it was not all that wonderful! He has since returned to a champion napper, but in the middle we had a bought of Croup and a quick stomach bug. From these combined illnesses, and our trips to the doctor, we now know he is a whopping 43 lbs. No wonder he is so hard to carry/hold for long periods of time!
Communication: Harry has been very verbal with his feelings this month. He seems to be able to better explain when he is frustrated or why he is mad, at times. On the other side of that, he is really good at showing the happy emotions, too. Almost every night, he looks at Bryan and I with his big blue eyes and very sincerly says, "I LOVE YOU!!!" It is usually out of the blue, and such a warm fuzzy that I had to be sure to record it!
Some key phrases the past few months: "Be careful that you don't go in the ditch- Safety rules!"
"Mom, can I get you anything while you nap (when I am napping when he is supposed to be)."
He has been attempting to communicate with his brother through my tummy. It is pretty cute to listen to the things he thinks are important to tell his brother. Usually, he tells him about the new things in his room or what he did that day. His brother, I am sure, will never get a word in edgewise, and is already used to his whining voice, as that is another form of communication that has been overused this season!
I would like to ban the phrases "I WAAAANNNT to" or "I DOOONNNT want to" from Harrison's vocabulary. Enough said.
Apparel: His 4T clothes finally fit (for the most part). I am waiting for either his legs to grow that final inch or two, or everything to go through the washer and dryer enough that it makes up for what his legs lack :) We stocked up on all things winter, including a pair of boots from the Bargain Cave at Cabella's (if you have ever seen him wearing them, you already know all about them). He went through a phase of footie pajamas, but now prefers to not wear anything on his legs at all... typical man in the making!
Transportation: Since there is not snow (yet), Harrison has enjoyed scooting and wheeling around on the driveway... Typical boy, typical boy stuff: time in the garage, fixing stuff, getting greasy, and bonding with daddy.
One afternoon, I asked harry what he wanted for lunch, and he replied by asking "Does the baby like Jimmy Johns?" I said, "Yes", so he said, "Lets feed the baby some Jimmy Johns."
Home depot truck build!
The pictures aren't the greatest quality, but I am happy we got some!! Celebrating grandpa's birthday with him!!
We took Harrison bowling for the first time one Friday night. He was IN LOVE!!! And, he was pretty good, once he realized that he could lay down to watch the bowl go down the lane :)
We went camping with Kevin, Erika, Jeremiah, Carson, Grandma and Grandpa in southern Minnesota on a chilly fall weekend. We visited the Mystery Caves, which were a big hit with everyone!
Halloween- All Saint Festival at Church!!
Carving Pumpkins
Harrison REFUSED to nap one afternoon. After telling him that he had to nap, repeatedly, it was finally quiet. When we went in his room, this is what we found. A pile on the floor with a light up pumpkin.
New popcorn maker! Never knew so much fun could be had with one little appliance.
Sadly, I did not get any photos of ANY of the Thanksgiving celebrations we went to, as my camera was having a "I don't want to work" moment. The turkey was good, the company was great, and the shopping (the day AFTER Thanksgiving) was even better! You'll just have to take my word for it!
